No Rain On May 13, 2016

“Rain Rain Stay Away, Come Back Another Day!”

Tamara&Shaun

Spring of 2016 wasn’t full of sunshine and warm weather in the state of Virginia.  It seemed as if the rain was never going to stop.  For an outdoor wedding it can be a very stressful time for the bride and groom.  All Tamara and Shaun could do was hope that on May 13, 2016 the rain would stay away.  So it was! On the day of their wedding, the rain stayed away!  Although there were scattered clouds in the beautiful blue sky, the glimpse of sun was shining through them.  They were so excited and full of joy on their wedding day, it was contagious.  The wedding party along with the guest smiled and rejoiced for them.

Salamander Resort & SpaThe couple married at the beautiful Salamander Hotel & Spa, located in Middleburg, VA.  Surrounded by the beauty of Virginia’s Horse Country, you’d be hard pressed to find a better locale for a luxury resort with an equestrian flair.  Architecturally, the resort resembles a grand manor, one designed to meld with the surrounding environs, and the eco-friendly building is LEED-certified. The region is dotted with estates, horse farms and vineyards that produce grapes for more than 50 Virginia wineries.

Tamara&Shaun2With over 20,000 square feet of beautiful ballrooms, sweeping lawns and secluded terraces, their stunning equestrian setting offers an array of spectacular on-site venues for all sizes of ceremonies and receptions, as well as the surrounding lush vineyards and centuries-old churches.

The guest and wedding party danced from the moment the first song was played, until the very last song.  What a pleasure it was to see so many smiling faces as they danced alongside the bride and groom.

The Royal Sonesta Harbor Court

Erin and Kevin are a beautiful couple, who are full of life and full of love for each other and the people around them.  I loved working with this couple, and just knew that their wedding would be quite the event!

Their wedding took place at the absolutely gorgeous Royal Sonesta Harbor Court t in Baltimore MD. The Royal Sonesta Harbor Court Baltimore is ideally situated on the picturesque waterfront of the Inner Harbor. The hotel is a short walk from the downtown business district and the city’s best attractions, including the National Aquarium, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, American Visionary Arts Museum, The Maryland Science Center and historic Federal Hill.

The wedding celebration lasted a couple of hours. The reception venue was full of energy and laughter all through out. The staff at Sonesta Harbor Court understood the needs of a wedding DJ, as the setup was exactly where it needed to be, right next to the dance floor.

Feeling the energy of the dance floor fuels me as a performer, which allows me to take the party to a higher level. The passionate energy of the guest at Erin and Kevin’s wedding made it a perfect combination for the celebration.   From the opening of the dance floor to the final song of the night, the dance floor never cleared. That is a wedding DJ’s dream scenario. It was an honor to DJ at this wedding.

A Gala to Remember

Picture a very large room with casino tables all the way to the left end of the room, and a Photo Booth all the way to the right. The dance floor was in the middle of this HUGE room.

Although I Dj at clubs, bars, and large party events, doing it in a very large room that has other sources of entertainment can be very challenging.

The RMA Gala took place at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center.  At 23,408 square feet, grand does not do justice in describing their Grand Ballroom, the largest in Maryland!

Featuring a beautiful coffered ceiling with stylish chandeliers, rich carpeting, fine architectural and decorative detailing, and capable of accommodating 3,200 guests. Their Grand Ballroom is the epitome of modern elegance.

I am always up for a challenge and getting as many people I could on the dance floor was my goal.  I had to use every tool in my box to keep people on the dance floor.  I am happy to say that it was a huge success!  I kept the atmosphere at a high energy level at all times.   Playing a wide variety of music, and interacting with the crowd was key.

At the end of the night, I received many compliments, one being from the CEO of the company and his family. The biggest compliment was RMA asking me to please come back and DJ at their next annual gala!

“We want to book you, and if you are already booked, we will choose the date of the Gala around your availability.”  Little do they know that words like that remain engraved in my heart forever.  Making their gala a success is my greatest joy.

Christmas Lights

Even though Aline Dufresne and Seth Glardon married on November 28th, 2015, the spirit of the winter holidays was already in the air.  It was a remarkable view of lights all through out their ceremony and reception.

Their wedding took place at the beautiful Monaco Hotel.  Situated in the heart of historic Old Town Alexandria, the Monaco Alexandria, a Kimpton Hotel draws from its surroundings to create a one-of-a-kind blend of American tradition and imaginative artistry.

Rooms are dressed in bright, bold colors that make the Monaco Alexandria, a Kimpton Hotel pleasantly unforgettable. National treasures such as The White House and National Mall are a short Metro ride away.

Elegance and History

On October 11, 2015, I had the great honor to DJ at the beautiful and historic Anderson House.

Paul and Kate met in the Spring of 2014 at the storied Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. They share a love of cooking, travel and comedy.  Kate is amazed to have found a partner who appreciates BOTH the opera and NHL hockey, and Paul now has a travel partner teaching him to waltz and “Game”.   They will have been engaged for 18 months by their wedding day.  The picture below shows Paul and Kate enjoying a roller coaster ride at the very well known Coney Island.  It shows their happy nature and fun spirit.  It was great Dj’ing for this fun and happy couple.

As I was setting up, I couldn’t help but notice the elegant interiors.  Anderson House is a Beaux Arts mansion completed in 1905, and was built to entertain.

Anderson House  is now a museum and the headquarters of The Society of the Cincinnati, a patriotic organization. It is a beautiful setting for wedding receptions.  It also provides an ideal backdrop to a couple’s special day.

Who is Michael Cruz?

Michael Cruz, also known as DJ Cuban is a Dj & MC in the DC and Metropolitan area.  He began D’jing at a very early age, back in H.S. and like most Dj’s he started doing small parties, house parties, pool parties, etc. He quickly realized he had a gift for music. He had this thing where he was able to find the songs people liked. A couple of years ago he transitioned into more formal events like weddings. He also coincidently started doing clubs in DC. Today, he considers himself a hybrid of DJ’s because he currently holds a residency at some of the hottest clubs in DC while still being able to do 40-50 weddings a year.

He is really proud and thankful for being able to be so busy as a Dj and MC. One of the things he has learned that sets him apart as a wedding Dj is the fact that he also perform at clubs.  Performing at clubs has opened his world, it has taught him how to mix music how to read the crowd and how to keep a dance floor active for more than 2 hours, which he considers very unique.

“When it comes to mixing and keeping a dance floor busy is an art form that a lot of people don’t have and I’m thankful that I’ve learned throughout the years and hard work that I’m able to keep a dance floor active and people excited and dancing all night long”, Michael says.

One of his favorite things about weddings is that he gets to experience the unique feeling that people have. It’s a special day; It’s a unique celebration when I can see the energy in the room. People are excited and it makes him really happy to be a part of something so special and so big. There is no other feeling than being able to introduce the wedding party and have the entire crowd in the room stand up and give a big round of applause to the newly weds. As a wedding Dj he’s learned that there are different types of needs. Some people like a DJ who is more active on the dance floor, and inviting people. Other people like a Dj that is not too interactive. He’s able to adapt to the needs. He’s not afraid to get on the dance floor and teach people how to do a line dance. He’s not afraid to get people on the dance floor, because that’s his job. He’s very flexible when creating a play list. He encourages clients to find songs that really mean something to them. Whether it’s a must play list in which these songs will played at the wedding, and he will find the right time to play them. He also encourages them to create a possible list; this is a list of songs that he will find the best time to play them. He may play them, he may not. Most likely he will. This gives him a little flexibility in order to read the crowd and see where the crowd is that night. There’s no one-way to do a wedding. He’s going to give you a general idea. But there are different things he can implement to achieve the dream wedding.

A Love Union at Cereville Mansion

On Friday, October 9, 2015 a beautiful union of two amazing people took place.  Aijne and Krystal Williams became one in the presence of friends and family.  Their wedding theme came from the show Empire.  It was a true honor to DJ for their wedding.

The wedding took place at the Ceresville Mansion locatedin Frederick, MD 21701. It was built in 1888. It has twenty-five riverside acres with lovely mountain views. It has a garden terrace with reflecting pool and pergola for outdoor gatherings.

The ballroom is gorgeous with windows that open up to a breathtaking pergola and pool. The very moment I stepped in, I was in love.                                                                                                                                          Cereville Mansion

Trump National Golf Club DC Wedding

Trump National Golf Course, Washington, D.C.

Many couples imagine and dream of a wedding that will leave lasting memories to not only themselves, but to all their guest as well.  Tammy and JF’s wedding did just that.  They celebrated their union on September 6, 2015 at the stunning Trump National Golf Club, Washington, D.C.  The ambience of this venue was a breath of fresh air.

I couldn’t help but to feel a sense of peace and joy as I looked out into the beautiful scenery this venue offers.  The golf courses grace 800 rolling acres along the peaceful and scenic Potomac River. The panoramic setting and unique design create the ultimate scenery for a luxury golf club.

The couple danced the night away, along with all their guest.  I don’t believe anyone stayed seated throughout the evening.  They requested several songs to be played during their “Hora Loca”, from “Guyando” by Fulanito to “Party Rock” by LMFAO.  They had props ready for their guest, and the rest is history!

A September Wedding

On September 5, 2015, I witnessed the celebration of Cristina and Marco’s wedding.  It was a day to remember.  As their vows were shared and they were pronounced Husband and wife, both Bride and Groom were ready to get their union celebration started.  I was ready to give them a night to remember.

Marirosa was their photographer, and she did an amazing job capturing every moment.  For more pictures of the wedding visit her Blog.

The wedding was held at the beautiful Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles.  As the Bride and Groom, along with their wedding party and guest enjoyed their dinner, I played a variety of soft music. From John Legend to Luis Miguel.  Once they were done, they were ready to get the party started!  Their music list was a little bit of everything, from Living on a Prayer (by BonJovi) to Zumba (by Don Omar).  It was a super fun crowd.  It was an honor to have been a part of this beautiful union.
